Sainsburys to British Gas

I'm currenty on the Sainsburys fix until 31st May 2016 but I am looking to move to the British Gas collective switch. This works out at slightly more than I pay on my sainsburys tariff because of the higher standing charges ( as my usage is low), but I am looking to do the switch as this will mean my bills will be fixed for another year rather than just the next 3 months...
My question is how long can the switch take from sainsburys to british gas as they are the same company; does it still take the 17 days or is it quicker? And also is it possible to delay the switch or not?
Thanks

Hi Savings1234
British Gas treat a switch from Sainsbury's Energy to it as an acquisition. That's to say it goes through its 'new to supplier' process in the same way that a switch from Npower is processed.
However as it has all your details in its systems, the end to end process can be quicker than the normal 17 days.
I'm afraid that it isn't possible to delay a switch.
Hope this helps.0 -

If the deal you are currently on is cheaper, then you might want to delay switching until closer to the time the existing deal will end.
Currently gas prices (to the consumer) appear to be falling anyway, but electricity prices may be rising very slightly.
But I suspect if you were to look in particular at separate suppliers in 3 months time, you'll beat the existing BG deal anyway and you'll probably fixed longer than the BG deal currently on offer.
Or who knows, there might even be another (better) collective tariff available by then.
