Having decided to overpay my mortgage instead of paying less each month when the interest rate dropped I have just made the redemption payment and I reckon I've saved £106,112 by paying it off in 11.5 years.

I switched to to a tracker mortgage at the end of my fixed term and then In December 2010 I cancelled my Direct Debit replaced it with a Standing Order, putting me in control of the repayments, not the lender. Initial loan £145,000 (at 5.09% APR), over 25 years would have been £279,405 in total. Instead I paid just £173,293.
