sound only streaming will not close on tablet have to shut down

Anyone else have this problem ? When I am streaming sound only recordings on my tablet they won't close when I close their tab/window. I have to physically shut down the power on the tablet to stop them.
I first discovered this when I was streaming an online audio book and today I was streaming a radio play from iPlayer and had the same problem. Anyone else experience this and have a fix?
