Electricity
Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help at all.
I used u switch to change my electricity supply to EDF, everything was set up but a few days before the switch they wrote to me explaining they couldn't take over as have 2 meters and they only support 1 so they sent both back over to the current supplier which was Scottish Power. Ok fair enough. Silly I didn't cancel the direct debit and they took the 1st months bill out which they did refund immediately but then they took a finial bill out which was over £300 which I had to get an indemnity from the bank. Everything was then cancelled and they give me a £20 compensation cheque to say sorry and was assured that this was the end of the matter. 12 months later I have now received another final bill of £125 but Then I received another letter which is a notice before debt collection as I owe £74. I rang EDF and they have said that there is an outstanding bill of £125 due to when the electricity supply was sent back to Scottish power it took 3 weeks to do, so they did supply my electricity for those 3 weeks! So I need to pay, they said that because it has taken over a year to sort out the balance has come down to the £74 but I am very dubious about paying it. I am going to call Scottish power to check if this is correct about the 3 weeks but they are not open today and don't even know if they will be able to provide me with this information. I only pay £52 a month for my electricity so don't know why they would be charging me £125 for 3 weeks for one meter! Apparently the meter reading is correct as they have checked with the national database! I would be greatful for any advice

I can't see why EDF would have charged you for any energy when they 'cannot support two meters'.
They passed you back to Scottish Power who should use their meter readings when they closed your account, as the start meter readings for the resumption of your account.0 -
What EDF means by 'they can't support your meter' is that their billing system can't support your meter.
Your account will have been passed to the erroneous transfer team and they will have created a manual bill based on you being on a standard meter on their standard (variable) tariff. They will have added together any readings provided and billed them all at the same rate.
For those three weeks you were with EDF you will have used energy that will have be attributed to EDF; so they are liable for the energy you used in this period and will bill you for it.
If you pay £52 week per month this will be an amount that has been averaged over a year. What you actually use per month would be less in the summer and more in the winter. If the 3 weeks with EDF Energy were in the winter then you are likely to have used more than the average amount.0 -
