We are looking for a new kitchen and have been to see the designer at two places - one that sells German brands and one that is the top end at the local builders merchants. Surprisingly we liked the German product, but have a dilemma. Our existing kitchen is all wood doors - about 20 years old now - but has lasted well. The German product is mdf lacquered. Are these hard wearing? Do they mark easily? Solid wood is out of our budget because I simply refuse to pay £40k plus for a kitchen. OFor the size of our kitchen were probably into the £30k area for the mdf ones!

How large is this kitchen. When you say MDF, do you mean mdf lacquered doors? There is no reason why this shouldnt last a long time.

If your preference is a wooden doored kitchen, there is no reason why you cant get a decent one. Germans arent really well known for their traditional shaker styles, but have a look around.

    Hi

Painted MDF is perfectly fine, you will get fed up with it way before it wears out!

Kitchen is 6m x 3m and to me £30k sounds an awful lot. I've read through the various threads on here today and will be looking at Howdens and some others. When we had our existing MFI one fitted, we had our joiner make matching filler pieces where needed so it didn't look cheap. Unfortunately when we extended we used a builder and he made a right lash up so it looks home installed in places!

I'm thinking a wood one with good work tops - granite or corian - installed by a professional fitter might be the way to go.

Was this price including worktops, appliances and installation. If yes, then I am not surprised. If not then it sounds very expensive
