I'm sure someone will be along soon with a definitive answer - however the UK is not like the UAE.

    1. Debt is not a crime in the UK (unless it is for Taxes)
    2. UK government departments are famously incompetent so even if such a system for blocking passports existed, I would expect it to work ;-)

No it does not matter and government will not share info with debt collectors.

As a UK citizen (presumably) you are entitled to your UK passport and its renewal, your financial situation and history is of no concern to the UK Passport Agency. I would consider it highly unlikely that they or the Foreign Office would share information about your current location with debt collectors, if that's what you mean, although nothing would totally surprise me these days.

Are you British? If so, you have a RIGHT to a passport and none of these things make the slightest bit of difference.

Incidentally, did you know that most debts disappear after six years so long as you do not do anything to renew them? For details, search on the term "statute-barred" and look elsewhere on this forum.

considering jt can take a year for your electoral roll registration to find its way onto your credit report its really unlikely anyone has the ability to do manage complicated connections like linking debts to a passport.

Be aware if and when you do move back and start opening bank accounts and getting a mobile phone organisations will find you, but it can all be dealt with.

and as has been said the government are simply not interested unless it's tax evasion, and if you owe a lot of tax just change your name to Ms Google - you will have the amount due reduced to a few pence and be awarded a lucrative government contract to help collect tax money.
  • As I have to pay the fee with a debit card/credit card. Will that matter (will my name connect me to debt via credit card companies)?
    Or it will not matter?

    I really stress over this!

No, it's purely a purchase, it can't connect anything to anything else unless someone was doing someone very dodgy. You are free to pay for whatever you want with your cards/money.

You really are worrying over nothing. As I said above if you move back to the UK and setup home expect people to start chasing you pretty quickly, but that's through an entirely different system, that's simply because 'stuff' would be reported to the credit reference agencies and people who want your money will see your new details when they next check your file. However the government do not report things like passports to credit reference agencies, it has nothin to do with anyone else, you are not taking out a financial commitment, you are renewing a passport.

Now stop worrying and get on with it!

Well, technically there is no such RIGHT in this sceptered isle. UK passports are issued under the Royal Prerogative on a discretionary basis!

In rare circumstances (threatened minors, where there is an arrest warrant etc) the Passport Agency will refuse to issue them to British citizens.

But for most people, effectively you are indeed entitled.
