What you are asking for is everyone else to do the leg work for you.

This site - and others -has a wealth of information as to how to get around the Globe cheaply.

    My Tip
Do some research and come back with questions as to what you do not understand.

    Second Tip
    Credit cards.

    Third tip
Do not believe everything you read from (paid) MSE bloggers.

Apparently this guy booked the cheap flight WEEKS in advance to get the cheap fare.
Also he did not look at Coach fares\split ticketing or buying advance train fares.

I think you have mis-understood my original post, by 'leg work' i can only assume that you mean that im expecting people to research and find cheap flights for me?

Well i didnt ask that at all, i simple asked for reccommended sites and destinations.

Sometimes i can do all the research in the world and still be clueless at the end of it. So in some cases i find it easier to just ask the questions from the get go and if people reccommend blogs or provide links to other threads on the net then i will gladly read them.

    regards.

I use Skyscanner to find who flies where, Momondo for a comparisons of one way and return fares, then book directly with the airline.

    .......

Just as an example, I've a flight from Manchester to Crete for £23 with Easyjet on 1st November. Ryanair do really cheap internal flights between the Greek islands and Athens.

I've also had flights like Heathrow to Rome £55 with Alitalia, Naples to Barcelona for £28 with Vueling and Barcelona to Heathrow with BA for £74.

    ........

I'm currently looking at an Easyjet flight from Basel to Stansted for CHF 9 = £ 6.35.

Thankyou for your reply, very much appreciated. i will look into these over the wkend.

I also read somewhere that buying tickets mid-week (tues-thur) can also result in paying less for tickets. Any truth behind this statement from your experience?

    Regards.

Not in my experience, and that's 10yrs booking flights full time.

There's a lot of research been done on the 59 days before departure theory, and I have seen that happen quite often. If you have a specific destination in mind, just check the fares on Momondo from 65days prior to departure and keep a note of them, or you could do this just for fun to see for yourself.

I missed out another favourite site of mine...

    http://www.thomson.co.uk/flight/deals

Thomson do great one way and midweek flight only deals throughout the year. Last July, I got the train from London to Birmingham Airport for £10, Birmingham to Santorini for £55 one way with Thomson, sailed to Athens with Blue Star ferries for £17, flew to Istanbul for £46 with Aegean and back to Heathrow for £59 with BA.

Another good connecting airline for on the Continent is Meridiana...

    https://www.meridiana.it/home/index/en/

I use them for Naples to Greece flights, and just looking now, they have Naples to Mykonos for Eur 37.67 in August. So (as an example) if use that as my starting point... I'd search on skyscanner for the cheapest UK to Italy fares and Greece to UK fares, then check Italo trains website for their lowest fares from the arrival airport to Naples, Blue Star ferries for lowest fares from Mykonos to the return departure airport.

My favourite part of that trip is always Blue Star ferries. 8hrs sunbathing on the back of a boat with lots of like minded people, calling in at different islands along the way, good food and drink at reasonable prices, sunset at sea and all from under £20. ;)

I'd take that over two weeks at an all inclusive resort every day of the week and I'm 50.
