Credit Building

Options
Hi,

I have recently turned 18 and I am looking for advice on how to build my credit score up? Would taking out a credit building credit card such as with Aqua or Capital One be the best way or would approaching my current bank Nationwide and seeing what they could do for me? Would getting an o/d on my current account be helpful?

Thanks

You might be better off asking your own bank for a credit card first as they have a relationship with you, you might get a better interest rate from them.

are you good at saving money? Or do you spend all your pay as soon as it comes in?

If you spend it all then a credit card Is a bad idea.

Forget about building as its not your score your building ( lenders don't see it so don't use it, only you can see it), its adding to your credit history.

Its not essential to get a credit card at all, just running your account really well, making sure money is in the account to pay for the phone bill, don't go overdrawn etc will help.
  • I would just set up a d/d to clear it every month, I like the idea of the protection from online with credit cards as I do quite a bit of online shopping. I have savings there just in case as well.
