Cruse Control

On the late evening of Christmas eve, whilst coming back from visiting relatives I was able to travel all the way from J29 (A127) of the M25 to just south of Newark on the A1 without touching a pedal.
I did use the steering wheel buttons to adjust my CC set speed on a few occasions, but it was without a doubt the longest period I've ever been able to use CC on a UK road without having to use my feet at any time.
I use CC on almost every trip I do. Any 20, 30 or 40MPH limit and the CC goes on. Saves me a fortune in speeding fines.0 -
I echo the above ... for areas with average speed cameras then CC is great.

You do have to stay alert though for all the idiots who drive at 57 between speed cameras then brake to 44 over the lines - CC set at 49 does the job for me.
The most common trick is to tailgate someone as they pass the last camera, may fav trick is to quickly change lanes and drop them right in it

            ?
I only ever use CC if I'm cruising - which means I'm in top gear (6th). I suppose I could use to hold the speed at 25mph in 3rd or 30mph in 4th - but I can't think of any road conditions where that made sense. If you (or the car) want/need to change gear - you're not cruising are you?
All I can see for needing to change gear is if you are coming up a significant hill and changing down - an auto box with CC will presumably change down to maintain speed but a manual box with CC will try to increase revs. In which case, you should be over-riding the CC and driving the car. There are a few motorways with long climbs or bridges (M62 springs immediately to mind) and if you haven't spotted it happening, it's the driver that's the weakness, not the technology.
You should try driving on a more varied set of roads. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0 -
Do elaborate - O fount of wisdom...I need to think of something new here...0

Cruise control keeps me to the speed limit despite the urge to go faster. I love it, but it has to be on an automatic. I've never tried it on a manual.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

So if you've never tried it on a manual, how do you know it 'has' to be on an auto?0 -
I got cruise control with the new-to-me car & use it rather rarely. The average speed limit stretches are where I want to use it, but the rest of the traffic is too unpredictable.
Then when I do get a clear run of road with little else on it, it's usually night & I want to be certain I can see...0 -

Since returning from living in the USA I resolved never again to buy a car with manual transmission. Driving is just so much more relaxed and stress free in an auto.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
