I switched my mom and dads gas and electric with the hope of saving them money but therir monthly payments have gone up not down.I switched to a 1 year tariff with british gas which the energy club recommended and should have been saving £453 a year but this does not seem the case and now I feel guilty for trying to help them

You are not talking about the British Gas February 2017 fix and it mentioning £100 Direct Debit.
That figure was just an example if some-one's (not your parents in particular) consumption goes up.
Joining e-mail just gives an example - current direct Debit £90 then in big circle NEW DIRECT DEBIT £100.
It is not the Direct Debit that will be applied to your parents account.
Was discussed elsewhere yesterday.
This confirming my similar post yesterday
