Partners ex employers still paying into pension

Hi, we have just had a statement through from my partners old pension from 7 years ago and it seems her employers have continued to keep paying into it. I'm guessing this is wrong and they should have stopped when she left. Should she inform them or just let it run?

Sooner or later they will realise and your partner will need to pay it back as you dont get entitlement to money paid to you in error.

There are different ways of doing it. The employer may just ask for their money back and seek a deduction from the pension or from yourselves directly. However, they make ask the provider to unwind the contributions made after a certain date and that would see any gains lost in respect of those extra contributions.

Is this statement the only one received since leaving employment?

If not, was the mistake not apparent much earlier?

This is correct if it is a defined contribution pension, but a statement from a defined benefit pension most probably would show contributions even though the person has left employment.

Showing employer contributions attributable to an individual member would be unusual on a DB pension statement for an active member, let alone a deferred one.

no idea, its the first year we have been together and it was only noticed because i'm getting our finances in order. Judging by the way she treats her other finance related letter, i doubt shes ever read it before!

it doesn't say what type of pension, just that there has been payments received from both employee and employer each month throughout the year

Have you checked to see if anything is going out from her bank? Or what about from her current employer ? Seems bizarre.

Is there someone with a similar name at the old employer ?
