Halifax and BOS closing my accounts

Could you give a summary of searches made? Is it really 2-3 ID searches per account, per month...every month? For how long have you had the accounts?
Looks like they've had their eyes on you for a while! If that's the standard pre-cursor to account closure then a lot of people on here could benefit from that knowledge, and close their accounts before they're closed for them!
Actually, looked up the code and now realised they are all under HBOS hsdl which is Halifax share dealing.....makes sense as have an account with iWeb who use Halifax share dealing. As my share / fund deals tend to be relatively large size then probably have to be checked in this way and can see same (but less frequent as use iWeb most) for other share dealing providers I deal with.
And they started when I opened my iWeb account so been going on from before opened BOS accounts. And from memory the dates of the checks seem to coincide with when I have placed sizeable share or fund trades.0 -
I can confirm that in my case there were 6-7 'unrecorded enquiry' searches by both Lloyds and Halifax during my YB account opening and switching spree this time last year. The first three searches were triggered by me applying for an additional Lloyds account (intended to be switched to YB) which was closed the next day on failed stage 2 credit checks. The final unrecorded enquiry was around the 20th of February last year which was the day they sent a 60 day closure letter, which seems to coincide with the time the LBG systems update the CRA feed. The reason they gave was that they had been monitoring activity on my account and as a result were closing them.
(By the way, if I'd had access to my Experian credit file during that time, I'd have stopped opening accounts with YB and donor accounts to switch to them with RBS as both triggered hard searches every time and I built up over 40 at one point! LBG were obviously concerned by that activity).0 -
And have now also received letter dated 2 Feb from Lloyds account closure unit confirming my accounts with them also to be closed with 60 days notice (wording pretty much same as other two letters).0

I actually opened a Lloyds classic count in early January for donor purposes but not used as yet. Just been sitting there with a few pounds in.0 -
Thanks tg99 for the updates you have provided here, it's made very interesting reading.
I'm off to check my noddle report now - never used to pay that much attention to the search section, but I will from now on!0 -
Will report back after branch visit but let me know if any other questions it is worth me posing in branch, thanks.
What are you hoping to achieve? LBG's objective is very clear and more than likely has been set at at a high level policy wise. While you may feel better for venting your frustration at an innocent bank employee. No one will actually care a toss.0 -

What I'm hoping to achieve is to get answers to some of my questions as noted in post 30 above which I need to go into branch to do; and then probably launch a complaint to get it investigated further as I have nothing to lose and there is an albeit slim chance a mistake has been made. I'd also like to try and get some peace of mind that the closures won't result in problems with my other bank accounts. I have no interest in taking out frustration on an 'innocent bank employee' so not sure why you have assumed such. Reporting back my findings here might be helpful to others who are unfortunate enough to end up in a similar situation.0 -
I doubt there's a mistake. Banks can read online forums like anybody else. Probably decided it's time to take action.0

Just remembered I have a savings account with Birmingham Midshires which is a subsidiary of Bank of Scotland. Wonder if this is for the chop too......wasn't mentioned under the list of accounts given to me when I spoke to the closure unit earlier though.0

It's not some kind of ethnic restriction but rather someone outside Scotland (address wise) won't be able to fly under the radar.what did they expect, another scottish only rule.
my Oh is scottish.:o
they cannot be that naive that if a person opens 3 a/cs, he isn.t going to use them all the same as his/her main a/c.
I know friends who work for BOS and they do the same, and know what's going on, or not, as the case is.
that's the only benefit the a/c has as you say.
lbg just spring cleaning, muscle flexing:)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
