Claim from Welcome Finance
I've just been sorting paperwork out and have found an old Welcome Finance agreement. I paid £819 PPI. It's dated March 2004.
Now I know that Welcome are in default, but will that affect an older claim like this? I went on their website, and it seems I have to contact FSCS, but their offices are closed today
I also had an earlier loan with them, but can't find the paperwork - any idea if I may be able to get hold of copies?
Thanks

Hi
I am currently making a claim for a loan from 2001 and have had to go straight to the underwriters (Aviva) who are now looking into my claim. I contacted Welcome directly to request a SAR (Subject Access Request) as I had no idea what my account number was. I just knew I had a loan with unrequested PPI. I gave them as much details as possible and I received all my account details and paperwork for £10. My PPI was £1464 and front loaded.
My advice would be to get all the paperwork, I used a template letter requesting this and once you have that you are good to go. I have been told most cases are running to about 4-5 weeks.0 -
I believe, from previous posts, FSCS won't payout on pre-2005 complaints unfortunately, double check sure but don't hold out hopeHi all

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

If making a complaint you don't actually need the paperwork or the sums, you can save the £10 - it's only necessary if you don't have any copies yourself and don't believe what they say on the phone - if they have your records still to hand, paying for paper copies won't aid the cause.
As Aviva didn't sell you anything you may or may not get lucky with a miss-selling complaintSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Yes I had no paperwork and I wanted full details as when I called they couldn't find me on the system due to the loan being from so long ago (their words). Now I have everything to hand so at least I know all the figures etc. I am still appalled by how much I paid back overall, appalled and embarrassed I took a loan with them to begin with!
The guy on the phone was very helpful at Aviva so will wait and see what comes back but I understand I can take it further if they refuse?0 -
Not in your circumstance. You cannot refer a Welcome complaint to FOS from 2001 as the sale was pre-regulation. If the insurance provider rejects your complaint, it's game over for you.SummerJessica wrote: »

Save your money - ring them up and ask if you had PPI on the earlier loan. They should be able to tell you when you took it out and whether they'll deal with it or not. For the 2004 one (and depending on the date, maybe the earlier one too), you need to complain to Welcome - download the FOS questionnaire, complete it and send it to Welcome.
FSCS won't deal with a PPI taken out before 14 January 2005.0
