'Cross' Ballpoint pens.

Would like opinions please.

I bought hubby a Cross pen for Christmas which I had engraved. I had seen the pen in Ernest Jones and then saw the same one in Smiths £20 cheaper so bought it from there.

It was meant as a joke at the time because he has a bet on the horses on a Saturday and had complained a few weeks before that he had lost his lucky pen!

Today he has announced that the pen has run out of ink. So after using it to write his slips out for 6 Saturdays its empty. Thats less use than me writing a letter.

Now I know I can just go and get a refill for a fiver but that also means I have to travel 7 miles into town and park. I know it seems petty but £50 for a pen that runs out so quickly.

And before anyone says I could have got 10 boxes of Bic pens for the same money, yes I know!

With so little use (and I know I cant prove that, but 7 weeks!) could I complain and ask for a free replacement refill?

I'd guess that with pens it's a little bit like when you buy a printer, you get ink with it, but it's a starter kit & essentially only designed to get you up and running long enough to purchase more. The other question would be was the pen sealed when purchased or was it available to test prior to purchase? Doesn't seem like testing it out would be harsh on ink consumption individually, but collectively that would add up.

Try standing the refill in a mug of hot water for a few minutes. It worked when similar happened to one of my pens and I knew there was still ink inside.

Well you certainly don't need to travel 7 miles and park, there are many options online for buying Cross refills, including the company's own website.

Or you could send them a nice email and they might send you a refill free of charge.

You could have written a book for all they know, buy a refill and be done with it.

I know Im being petty, its just annoying to think that a 20p pen would have lasted longer.

I've been using my Cross pen daily for around 2 years now and still haven't changed the refill...

Could be the cold making the ink more viscous than usual? The cup of tea suggestion might just do the trick!
