Don't use contactless then if you don't see much use.
    What's the problem?
  • No problem didn't realise they sent these cards out as standard
  • I was only expecting a normal debit card

Almost all my recent debit cards are contactless: Barclays, TSB, YB, Halifax, FD, Santander and even Nationwide.

Even Barclays basic account card is (can be?) contactless: Barclays basic account debit card

It is a normal card. If you got one that wasn't contactless that would be more surprising. If you can't see the use of it, don't use the contactless function, it's not obligatory.

You can ask for a non contactless one if that`s what you would prefer.

They are quite useful if you buy something like a packet of crisps but don't want a pocketful of change. It sometimes feels a bit silly to use chip and pin for piddly amounts but tapping your card on the reader takes a second or two so is quicker than cash. The amount has always been shown on the card reader when I've used it so I don't take the receipt but one is always offered.

It's good that Barclays starts to issue contactless debit cards with their cards starting with 4658 58. Those cards are usually issued on their basic bank account.

Long time ago only their debit cards starting with 4659 have a contactless feature on it, and cards starting with 4658 58 don't have it.
