Direct debit notice

Like some other customers of C&G (I presume), I have just received a letter informing me of a change to the DD guarantee. This reduces the notice period they must give of a change in amount to 4 working days.
While it is not a great concern to me personally, I did wonder if this complies with banking rules (I assume yes otherwise surely they would not have done it?). It also seems to be unreasonably short notice for those paying a significant sum.
They say they are harmonising the notice with other products.

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

For several years now (a quick google shows at least back to 2012), originators have been able to 'agree' a shorter timescale with their customers.
BT must have such a shorter timescale agreed with me (haven't bothered to check the small print!), because they notified me last Friday that they were taking a payment yesterday. Doesn't concern me as they're pulling from a maxed out Santander 123 account.
I expect we'll see this become more commonplace, as more and more notifications come via email rather than by snail mail as people are encouraged to go paperless.0 -
I got a letter from the Halifax saying something similar, something about changing current customers Direct debit T&Cs to the same as new customers.
It said it only needs to give 4 days notice if they change the direct debit date.
Didn't say anything about changing my mortgage date tho.0
