Pre-payment tariff, no pre-payment meter?!

Hi, I hope I'm ok to post this question.

When I moved into my house there were pre-payment meters fitted and Eon were the supplier, I contacted Eon and asked them to remove the pre-payment meters and replace with regular credit one, which they did.

3 years later and after realising I'm on a rubbish plan, I try to switch as money is tight and I really was paying a lot and as I was paying monthl online. Anyway, My switch got cancelled. It turns out I've been on a pre-payment plan but with no pre-payment meters.

Eon are putting this right and assure me the standing charge for both types of meters are the same...but have I been paying too much due to a mistake by Eon? Does anyone know how this works as I have no idea how this stuff works and I'm not convinced Eon will tell me.

Thanks!
Newbie!

Standing charges for prepayment meters and credit meters will most likely be the same if you elect to stay on the default tariff which will be the standard/variable rates. These are usually the most expensive. Eon now have an excellent one year fix ( V19 I think ) which is much cheaper than the default standard/variable rate. It looks like you ve missed out on 3 years much cheaper bills. When you do switch , go through the Cheaper Energy Club to collect cashback.

Good morning The_rhythm73 and welcome to the forum.

We will sort this issue for you and it will show in the form of a re-bill I would think.

Once this is completed you'll be able to see the bill and charges, then as sacsquacco says, have a look and get on the best deal for you. Make sure you opt in for all the things that will also help you (can't say much on here)

But have a look on the website :)

If you do get stuck though, please just ask me.

Did you request a specific tariff when you arranged the meter change 3 years ago?
Even if you did, that deal has almost certainly ended and you would have needed to agree to another tariff.

Unless you have elected another tariff, you will be on the suppliers expensive variable tariff.

Not sure why the new supplier has cancelled your request. From the sounds of it, Eon have not updated the fact you had new meters installed. It sounds like they have agreed to correct this error.
