MSE News: Credit cards cancelled after mystery online shopping 'data breach'

Just had a text message from Tesco credit card advising due to industry wide fraud prevention my card was cancelled as from today. There's no explanation about what the industry wide fraud prevention is. I did note that there was a similar message to Tesco customer before Christmas 2017 so not sure if this is part of the same industry wide fraud prevention or something else again. Tesco seem to have a history of this.
If it is industry wide I don't understand why can't they issue the new card beforehand so you aren't left high and dry without a credit card.0 -
Because the risk to current cards is of such a level that means they need to close them down. New cards will take several days to get out.0

I've had this happen once, and once only. And it too was with a Tesco card. The explanation they gave was that the card had been compromised in some way, but that's all they would say.
I have some accounts with Tesco (no longer a credit card - they were appalling to deal with) and I can honestly say they're the worst bank I've ever dealt with. Odd systems, poor customer service, and a rather peculiar way of operating.
I see it more as a 'play' bank than a real one, and I certainly wouldn't trust it with a main account.0
