But what I tell then has to match what I tell nationwide, surely?
If you are declaring some of it as a gift then you can do this online with Nationwide. I did exactly this and there was an option to put multiple sources of deposit. I had to fill in the Gift Deposit form and send that with my other supporting documents.
The solicitor will also want proof of the gift and will verify the funds.0 -

How long ago was it gifted? Although there aren't any strict rules, the solicitors may only be looking three months back from whenever you send them money. If you're talking about something which was a year or so ago then its ultimate source becomes less relevant.0

Ah that's all ok then, I could have sworn you couldn't break down the deposit source. Great news.0

If I remember correctly when you get to the part to enter deposit you can click 'add deposit source' or something along those lines and you break it down like that. It is definitely there though.
If it is a gift and you have all the proof to support it, then absolutely put it down as that. No nasty surprises further down the application process.0
