Missing parts

Hoping for some quick advice before I go instore.i recently ordered a Meccanoid robot for my sons birthday online from Smyths. The parcel was left with my neighbour last Thursday. The packaging was damaged so we double checked all the components before starting building yesterday. The only thing we didn't check was the screws as there were so many. So we spent all day building ( it's quite a big robot!) only to discover that essential screws are missing! My 7 year old is devestated. It's practically built so I'd prefer not to have it completely replaced. A gentleman in another store suggested they should open another pack to give us the missing parts and return that one as faulty. Would that be likely? Does it make a difference that it was ordered online?

You have a choice.
Under The Consumer Rights Act you have thirty days to confirm that the goods conform to contract, and you can get a full refund if they don't.
Under distance selling legislation you have fourteen days to to advise the seller that the goods are not what you expected and to return them for a refund.
There's a bit more to it than that, but it was perhaps unwise to assemble the thing before checking everything was there.
If it is not possible to dismantle it and repack it in its box, you may struggle with any remedy.
Your son's devastation is not relevant.0 -
The order was placed in 22/01 and delivered on 28/01.
It can be dismantled and replaced but having spent hours building it that's not exactly a fantastic option from my perspective. Is it the case that that would be the only option?
As it was ordered online is it still possible to return to store?0 -
Go into the store with the robot and see if they will open another box for you...Or pop to b and q and buy some that fit.0

I will do - thank you. Just wanted some advice on my rights before I make the drive as the store isn't local. I've already been to both screw fix and tool station and Meccano use special screws that you can't buy elsewhere.0 -
they sell a big box of nuts and bolts in poundland.
or an old fashioned hardware shop might help ,what kind is it. you might be able to get more detail on the internet0 -

As you don't want a standard refund etc, give them a call before you go. No point in making a journey without speaking to them first. Or contact Meccano directly.
And if you want to be taken seriously, best not to mention the "devastated" child

If the time is disassembling and rebuilding one is such an issue try these people.

Meccano actually have a specific form on their website to get missing parts sent to you. Do you need them immediately or something? You could phone them on the free helpline number.
