MKDP LLP default on Credit Score

Hi all,
Hoping for some advice... I have a 'default' on my credit score from MKDP LLP... dated from end of 2011.
The debt it is from is an old credit card opened in 2001 - no payments or dialog had with the credit card company for over 6 years... MKDP LLP has obviously bought the debt (nearly £2k) but they have no record of it - got quite a few letters but I know they have nothing to back them up and are just the general 'we can help you pay please call us' ones... but I am not going to call or write to them, let alone pay them a penny.
The rest of my credit file is all great and has been for years... but this year I am looking into buying my first home... and would just like to get this default off my file...
It hasn't been affecting my ability to get credit so far - but not that I have had much - all my other loans I have had in the past etc - I have paid off... :A
I have read somewhere that MKDP LLP cannot keep a default on my file if they have no evidence of the original agreement (which I know the bank I go the card from does not either)...
I don't want to call them or write to them if it's going to aggravate anything...
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

The default will stay on your file until the end of 2017, whether there is an agreement or not. But it can't be enforced without the agreement.
They may try for a CCJ before the 6 years is up, though they would need the agreement (not original, but reconstituted).0
