Lifting and relaying carpets

I want to be able to lift and relay parts of my carpet to fix a few squeaks in the floor. Does anyone have any advice about what tools are essential for this task?

Thanks,

Mark.

Sorry, should have been clearer - for lifting and relaying the carpet.

    Mark.
  • Thought so but best to make sure.

Well if your carpet has been fitted well you'll find that once you lift it up slightly (might be best to start from a doorway and take up threshold strip) it'll never be a perfect fit back. This is because a carpet fitter will stretch the carpet when they fit it, so there are no lumps and bumps. I have seen in B&Q that you can buy these carpet fitting tools for DIY purposes. Basically it would be a gripper that you put onto the carpet and bash with your knee to stretch it over the gripper rods attached to the floor, making the carpet nice and tight. A nice clean bolster should then be able to tuck the capet neatly down around the edge under? the skirting (just).
