    Evening all :hello:

    Maybe :D

Yup - as long as your cc/hd picking store is not trialling the new picking system and is actually running the offer.

Just make sure the paperwork has a discount for the meal deal and reject if it doesn't.

And remember they could fix the glitch overnight!

I think that this will continue to work as long as the deal is on. (I could be wrong again.)

If you look at the overview page, with all the 14 items in the offer on it, it does not say "4 for £5" (or whatever it is - I haven't done this deal), instead it says "Meal deal offer". This is not a 4 for £x mbuy offer - instead it is a "linksave" deal, which does not quite work in the same way. It's always been this way with meal deals. I contacted msm once and was told that meal deals did not show on their website and the reason they did not show was because they did not show online (on the supermarkets' websites) but were deals that were available in the stores. As such, msm will not reflect them and, now that we have long moved to a.com with the APG, neither will a.com.

An offer such as this meal deal may also be an excluded offer:T under the APG - it is good, from our POV, when they exclude their own offers (but not those of competitors) - though I haven't read into the T&Cs to see that that is the case. On this particular deal (there is another deal that CoT mentioned that, certainly on the shop that was done there, didn't have any good comparisons - but, on this particular one) it happens that the items compare well to one of the competitors (it could in theory be two or more, but I'm happy with one). I think, as long as the deal is actually available, and as long as the prices at at least one competitor on the items bought within it happen to be favourable, this is going to keep on.

With a meal deal, you can't simply pick, for example, any 4 items for £5 - so you could not choose, say, four pizzas at £5 and buy no ice cream and no McCains Wedges at all, so it is not a 4 for £5 deal, instead it is a deal in which you have to buy across the categories of items within it and it is therefore not a simple thing of having a system online that allows you to put any 4 items into the basket for £5. You have to pick a side, two pizzas and a dessert. Or whatever. It therefore cannot be flagged up as "4 for £5" or have all the items within it put into a same 4 for £5 offer as each other, as picking four pizzas will not qualify for the offer (unless you buy the meal deal itself twice and add two McCains and two ice creams). It therefore has to remain as "Meal deal offer" - we can't have the items within it saying "4 for £5", as that would allow people simply to put four ice creams, and nothing else, into the basket and have £5. It does not work that way. The system would have to be able to identify only when a combination of four items that, together, qualified for the deal had been put into the basket. They could not simply have "4 for £5" showing on each one and have them online as among "all the items in the offer" as any four at all, whether they formed a meal deal or not, would then go into the basket for £5. The offer only applies if people buy a meal deal - I would imagine there was no way for the online basket to do this from a simple "4 for £5" appearing across all items, and on their individual product pages, instead the items remain showing full price online but, if someone buys a meal deal, or meal deals, from within them, they qualify for - and get - a discount (or two discounts or however many) on their basket.

    HTH.

EDIT: It's not a glitch, it's an excluded offer!

EDIT 2: There's actually nothing in the T&Cs specifically about this point, unlike there is with TBG. (Unless you take the reference to mbuys "where the prices of the individual products in the promotion are not the same" [APG T&C 16] as applying to it - although that is not strictly applied anyway (for example 2 for £1 offers do get picked up whether or not the prices in the offer are the same, it is 3 for 2 offers and the like that do not) - also the 'linksave' meal deal is not an mbuy - or doesn't strictly work exactly in the same way as a straight mbuy.) However, there is no way that this meal deal (or any other that works like this) can appear online as "4 for £5" for the items within it, since it doesn't work that way, so the items will therefore appear at full price. This is how the system works. It is not a glitch: it is how the system works. However, any quibble, as to whether this is a glitch or not, doesn't matter: it works very much in our favour as long as it works this way.
