    Now I'm confused, does that mean that you do the subtraction first as its before the addition (after the multiplication) ??

    In which case I agree with Tiny

    I think it's 2

    If you do it sequentially I agree with 2 - but I seem to remember there is some odd maths rule that tells you which order + - x etc are done in. I can't quite remember it but it could give a different result.

  • I think that the kids would not find exams so stressful if they do do them regularly.

    This exactly what OH said last night when I was getting myself worked up about it.

    I'm having a calm exterior with DS for this, I'm not going to make it a big deal as I'll get him stressed.

    I hated tests and always found them very stressful

    I think I agree with marrbett:-

    BIDMAS = brackets, indices, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction in that order so

    3-3x6+2=
    3x6 = 18
    +2 = 20
    3-20= -17

    I agree.

    I was taught BODMAS-brackets, of, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction.

    Yup, you're right about the rule. Multiplication comes before addition/subraction. The answer is -13.

    Ha ha, except, that bbc website suggests that if its just subtraction and addition left, that you do them in the order the sum is in....which goes back to Tiny's calculator result. How confusing to make a rule that isn't a rule:rotfl:
