Protective pads for oval table

My parents used to have a very nice oval dining table, and to protect the top from heat etc. they had three table pads which were put on under a table cloth every time it was used. The table was used every day, but stayed unmarked because of the protective pads.

I know also have a (different) oval dining table which is very nice - and I don't want to get the top damaged by heat etc. So I want to buy some of these protective pads - which I guess might have to be made for the size of table, if they are not available 'off the shelf'.

I have no idea where to even start looking for such an item - or even what their proper name might be.

Can anyone help?

We have something similar for our dining table, it has a plastic like top surface and a white felt backing. I tried all sorts of places to get some more of this but failed miserably !

However - there is a floor covering called Flotex which seems to work almost as well - and it comes in lots of different patterns !

Argos sell a felt cover that you can cut to size - search on their site for 'table protector'. £15 for 1m*1.5m piece.

I got some of these made to measure for my table thirty years ago - they've been excellent and are still in daily use.

I bought mine in john lewis and just cut to size
