Getting a mortgage and then becoming mortgage-free!

Morning all, NSD yesterday hurrah!
Not much else money saving to report really. Stomach is still dodge; not sure if still ill or now related to work issues. Am trying to eat small meals and keep myself hydrated to stay as well as possible.
Kittens are still keeping us awake at night: really looking forward to when they can go out at night and I can get some actual sleep! Thy are however completely fine with using the catflap now and are spending most of the days when we work from home outside chasing bugs in the lawn :heartpuls:
On a non frugal front gf has convinced me to get a cleaner for a few hours tomorrow to mop upstairs floors, clean windows and clean the shower unit. She's been wanting one for ages once a month or so for deep clean stuffs that we struggle for time to do, but I've been resistant. However this weekend I'm going to get my big brother and he's staying the weekend, we then have her nephew over on Tuesday night too so it seems worthwhile to do it now.
I feel that I could clean and overpay the mortgage instead but with not being well, work being crazy busy it seems like a good use of funds.First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!0 -
Definitely a good idea to get a cleaner. Once we have the house a bit more finished (i.e. actually have flooring and skirting boards downstairs) we will be doing the same.
Yes, not very frugal, I admit, but I think it's important to find a happy medium between frugality and quality of life. We are out of the house from 8am to 6:30pm most days, so once we've cooked and eaten a meal, completed a few chores and taken Oscar our for a walk the evening has all but disappeared, and I really don't want to devote my precious weekend to cleaning
If it makes you feel any better about it look at it as helping someone to earn a living :AStarting Balance August 2016: £170,199.00 | Remortgaged August 2018: £212,000.00

Definitely Michael
I'm not going to agree to a monthly clean but maybe every now & then dependent on work travels etc.
94p overpaid today, 45p earned on Onepoll and a Pinecone survey completed.
Small spend of £1.34 for a skinny latte at work today but that's it so not too onerous.
Firgot to mention I have a chip in my windscreencalled insurers and paid windscreen excess of £85: awaiting confirmation of when they'll replace it. I've moved cash out of my personal bills acct as I save towards car repairs/MOT/insurance. Will call the company again tomorrow to book it in hopefully next week!

Hope youre feeling on the mend soon kittenkirst , it's horrible feeling poorly, stress (esp work) tends to have big impact too so hope that side of things calms down too !
As and when cleaner sounds a good plan , especially with long work hrs sometimes these things are definitely worth the time they then save!
Booo on windscreen chip but good they can replace quickly!
XMF planning for the simple life :j0 -
Hi KK I think a cleaner would be a good idea, it can just take the pressure off. I am currently trying to persuade my DS to get one now he has moved into his new house. He works long hours and the last thing he wants to do is clean on his days off. He is a bit resistant though...a bit of pride I think...he doesn't want anyone to think he can't cope.
I know it is extra money but actually being MSE is about making good choices about how you spend your money and this sounds like a good choice if it relieves some of your stress and gives you back some time to spend on things that matter to you.0 -
Thanks all!
Rather annoyingly the cleaner didn't turn up and no reply to message or call! Grrr
Luckily the sofa bed arrived and the window cleaner came so 2 out of 3 isn't too bad I suppose
Pinecone £3 received and OPd today, not much else today other than leftover butternut squash chilli and fries for dinner- odd combo but totally delicious!First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

Oh that's a bit rubbish of the cleaner not to turn up. Looks like you've got some cleaning to do this weekend :rotfl:Starting Balance August 2016: £170,199.00 | Remortgaged August 2018: £212,000.00

Yup! Heading off to pick up the brother at 12 so will have a spruce upon the morning!
Just been to Aldi for weekends shopping- spent £14.61 and got lots of BBQ food for Sunday and some bits for the week which isn't too bad. Still loads of fresh veggies left from last weeks mammoth asda shop which helps
Now home and settled with a cuppa and Friday night tv! Rock n rollFirst home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).

Sorry your cleaner didn't appear. DH convinced me finally to get one in before our au pair starts. Not very MFW but she did a fantastic job and it would have taking me all weekend to get the place looking as good. At least saved some money painting the kitchen myself. Only problem now is keeping the place looking good until au pair arrives.MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000
MFW 91 op 2015 £4051/4000

All the cleaning got done and the house looks lovely :heartpuls:
Awake early as there was another cat fight outside this morning- both our boys were tucked up on the bed so ran to the windows when the kerfuffke started! Heard the neighbours cat being ushered inside by its dad so think it's all alright.
Bro visit going well so far, grabbed a takeout for us all from a place in town which bro & his gf loved followed by a dessert delivery place too. Perfect with my brothers anxiety as the takeout place is new & staff dead friendly so he could say hello and then wait outside. Dessert delivery meant he didn't have to deal with crowds of people etc so also good.
£60 spent for 4 which isnt too bad as is our dinner out (£15 a head really)
Bros gf wants to get some trainers today so going into town at 19.39am is the plan for when shops first open so there'll be hardly any crowds fingers crossed, then home for a BBQ.
Journey to pick him up and get back was looooong yesterday- usually 3-3.5hr return trip: 5 yesterday due to traffic and me then taking a wrong turn
Gf's trying to watch the fight and has placed a small bet on McGregor so hoping he wins ;P
OPs now at £209.52 thanks to a TT this morning and the Pinecone funds moved acrossnow at £2005.92 since we got mortgage on 30th September so 11 months which I'm so pleased with as we've bought most of the house things now (flooring, tiles, furniture etc)
Equates to £182 per month OP on average where I was aiming for £75 as a base figure :
Gf wants to OP another £100 from her quarterly bonus I paid £100 in from my yearly: I'm pleased she wants to match my payment (:D) as shows she's into this overpaying too, but we're having a few issues with work so asked her to save it separately somewhere and when the work stuffs straighten out then OP it.
Am wanting to hit payout on Onepoll (3.65 to go!) and Yougov (11.5 to go so looking unlikely!) this year so will have to make up those funds if they don't cash out to hit the 2017 target.
Naughtily bought a new silversmithing tool: lady posted it in agriculture- unused and posted for £65. ive been lusting after one for two years but at £110 delivered it's been a pipe dream! It arrived yesterday and I can't wait for next weekend to get it out and have a play (it's this little beast: http://www.campbellmillertools.co.uk/dremel-4000-4-65-ez-multitool-65-accessories-230v-f0134000jr?gclid=CjwKCAjwuITNBRBFEiwA9N9YEIRnNZGBfXkn6J6FLjjgcRxPPq1mKaBPgCODkLUMudQFa6i8l9DedBoCwqYQAvD_BwE) :heartpuls:First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
