Tastecard and other auto renewal traps

Has anyone had any experiences with Tastecard that they'd like to share? I'm a journalist and I'm looking into the problems that people might have had with cancelling their subscription because of auto renewal or CPA payments.

I'm looking at Tastecard initially but also any other subscription traps that customers have found hard to get out of.

Let me know!

Thanks

xxxx

Have you tried the forum's search facility?

There are eight threads in the Consumer Rights Board that mention 'tastecard', the longest being primarily about The Gourmet Society.

I've had a Tastecard in the past and was able to cancel very easily and was not charged anymore than I expected.

You need to take into consideration that most people end up auto renewing subscriptions because they forget to do it and not because it's difficult.

When I took out this year's car insurance I also rang up and cancelled auto renew and the CPA they had on my card. So there is no need to wait until you get a renewal letter I did it at the start of the policy instead.
  • If only there were some way of the company communicating with the customer before purchase. The customer would then know what the terms of their purchase were and any conditions pertaining to it.
    That would be so useful.

MSE are incorrect in their write up on current Tastecard cancellation problems :
"If you paid via a debit or credit card, contact your bank or card provider and ask for a refund. There's no guarantee you'll get your money back – Section 75 legal protection only comes into force on purchases of £100 or more – but it's worth asking."

WRONG - Debit cards using chargeback - simple job to claim your money back
No minimum claim of £100 either

There is nothing wrong with that bit you have quoted.
