Ouch, OP walked straight into that one :)

Use confused.com and the other comparison sites.
Also try tesco and direct line...

Not sure if there's anything "special" you can do to restore yourself to a more "normal" premium.

Wait 10 years until your conviction is spent:rolleyes:

Can't really understand the point of posting this as there are numerous articles on this site for getting your insurance reduced. They apply to all drivers regardless of the driving history you just use the same technique. If you were looking for sympathy it lies between S*it and Syphilis in the dictionary.
  • Unfortunately OP you did leave yourself a bit open there.

However, if it helps my husband has a DD conviction on a DR10 still valid on his licence and one that is now spent (he was not a very clever boy when he was younger and now doesn't drink at all if driving). He attended a Drink Drive Education course after the second conviction and got his licence back a couple of months early, but on the course they gave details of specfic brokers who specialised in convicted drivers. The one we used were called ATLAS and are based in Guildford, Surrey - if you Google them they should come up and they were very good.

However, I should say that there really isn't any such thing as a 'cheap' quote once you have a DD conviction so be prepared for some high premiums.

  • Hi,

In response to your question I would guess that you have received some ridiculous premiums for your insurance based on the drink driving.

It wont be so easy to negotiate lower rates based on this and I thought I would post a reply which may be of some use to you having read some of the others.

Firstly, your insurance premium WILL be higher as this is one of the highest loading driving offences. (I am an independent broker with 8 years experience so promise I know what I am talking about)

The online sites will mostly decline to quote due to this so 2 ways to move forward are to either call individual companies such as Direct Line , Admiral, NU Direct etc who MAY quote but will probably apply standard loadings. You MAY be able to negotiate a discount but the insurers will be reluctant to do so.

Alternatively approach a couple of Local INDEPENDENT brokers ( this means they have access to the entire market and can look at your details on an individual basis. Specialist insurance companies are NOT always the lowest and you MUST check the quality of cover you are being offered.

If you want any more info just send me a message. Your premium will be dependent on the type of car and your age and previous driving history, as well as where you live. There are many more factors but these some of the ones which will affect your rate.

I hope this helps. Message me if you want more information or details on insurers that I deal with.
