So, I do my accounts in simple columns, materials, travel, postage, phone, equipment etc ... I only ever have to fill in a short tax return which basically asks my income and my expenses. The form from HB has me so confused, non domestic rates, charges, business insurance etc business assets, leases Cost of stock purchases, I don't seem to 'fit' into the boxes very well. I want to be able to just tell/show hb my income and my outgoings0

If you don't pay business rates put a line through that box.
Do you pay insurance? I assume you have public liability insurance? If you don't pay any insurance related to your business then put a line through that box.
Basically put a line through any question that doesn't relate to your self employment.
If any expenses don't fit put them down on a separate piece of paper and attach it to the self employed form.
Exactly what categories of expenses do you have? These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
What's the problem with earning 8-10k per year ? As a single mum she only needs to work 16 hours a week ! No law requires everyone to work full time !
No law requiring her to work 16 hours either.
However it's a bit of a stretch to say 'I don't claim' benefits, when clearly the OP does.0 -
Thank you, I will do that and see what happens. I have phone, internet, travel, stationary, equipment, % home bills, Yes I do have public liability0

Hi
I am currently having similar issues with my local council. They have had all my paperwork, are delaying in responding to any requests I make - like sending me written details of how to appeal etc.
My problem is complex because I was widowed very young and so have a small pension income. They have had my self-assessment from last year - ending April 2015 - taken the figures and doubled them! My pensions are taxable and I am of working age.
It is an absolute nightmare. The council have seemingly made up figures and added them in. They want breakdowns of this, and that... and it is quite honestly doing my noodle!
It will be resolved one way or another, but this has been going on now since 1st December 2015. Once they give a reply, i.e., they said I'm not entitled to anything (with their own inflated / incorrect figures) you then have 1 month to ask them to look at it again.
My tip is keep a record of all you write to them and also send recorded / signed for letters and don't give up. I won't give up!!! I don't think it's fair though to make me jump through so many hoops. I'm a fellow Artist by the way, degree qualified with a BA (Hons).0
