Boilers; Ideal vs Worcester? Hardwired vs wireless thermostat?

Hello,
Apologies if this question is a repeat of others asked...
It is time for a new boiler and I am frankly baffled.
The house in question will either be sold or rented but the current boiler is as dead as a dodo.
Which? say Worcester Bosch are the best.... (quote for 29 cdi greenstar= £2800 10 year warranty) but Ideal also are a possiblity (£1400 for a ideal logic plus 24 with 7 year warranty). Glow worm are coming in at £2530 (5 year warranty). That is a big difference in price!
I know that Ideal used to have a bad reputation, but would anyone recommend them now? Or is it WB all the way?
Also- one plumber said that 98% of combis have a wireless thermostat, whilst another said that hardwired ones are better and more reliable. What is best?
Decisions! Thanks in advance.:)

I had new heating fitted 10 months ago, a Worcester Bosch combi.

I have a wireless thermostat for the simple reason that it does not require wires so cheaper to fit and no wires in the wall

It is still fixed to the wall though, not mobile.
over 73 but not over the hill.
  • I had a 29 cdi greenstar installed 4 years ago, again wireless thermostat and it works reasonably. The issue I had was that in some areas of the house, the thermostat would not connect to the boiler. So it was moved from near the TV to be in the hallway where it works great.
  • Never had other than a WB so I can't comment on the others. Mine is about 7 years old now and was faultless until recently when 2 parts failed simultaneously. The engineer read the fault codes off the display, rang WB who told him what they meant and the parts were bought same day locally so still very happy with the boiler. With the thermostat, the receiving part is hard wired outside the airing cupboard where the boiler lives and the sending thermostat wireless some 20 yards away. Not ever had any issues with that and much more convenient than having wires trailing or holes drilled.

We have an Ideal Logic+ 24 and it's never given a problem and works very well for us. It is only 2 years old at present though.

Ideal had some issues in the past, but I think the Logic+ is a decent machine.

Your RGI relied on WB telling him what the fault code is? You could have done that yourself and saved the diagnostic fee, if that is all his approach to fault finding involves.

We have a WB, which is 2 years old this month and has a wireless thermostat.

The latter suits us fine as we can choose to have it in whichever room suits (usually the living room,as most time is spent there).

I don't understand how you keep your heating balanced when you have a movable Thermostat.

I have a traditional fixed thermostat in the hall/stairs/landing space. This is the largest space in the house, so I know that when this space reaches a set temp then all the other rooms will be too and the boiler can shut off.

I have set and adjusted my TRV's over time to finely balance this system.

I know that with my TRV's set at:
    Hall - Full
    Kitchen - 2
    Front room - 4
    W/C - 2
    Master bedroom - 2
    Second bedroom - 2
    Office - 2
    Master bathroom - 4

That when the hall gets to 18c, the rest will be:
    Kitchen ~16c
    Front room ~ 21c
    W/C ~ 18c
    Master bedroom ~ 16c
    Second bedroom ~ 16c
    Office ~ 16c
    Master bathroom ~ 19c

If I moved the thermostat all the temperatures would be off.

I prefer to have a stable temperature in the living room, as opposed to a hallway, where the outside door is opened. Opening the front door on cold days would result in the boiler kicking in, just to warm up the hall.

Should I be ill in bed and home alone,I would want to be more in charge of the bedroom temperature.

    Interesting.

Hope you didn't take my post as a criticism, I was just curious how it works for you. :)
