Maybe someone from the Social Housing sector might have been a good addition to the review.

They say the review will look at all tenures, so hopefully it will, as Housing is a wider subject than just Home Ownership, and there can be no sensible resolution to the issues without including all forms of Housing.

one of the problem is that the state built too many homes in some places like inner London. About half of them should be sold off to the highest bidder (Places like hackney islington tower hamlets etc are over 40% council homes and they should go towards a more average 20% social)

Personally, I think he's the wrong person to head the review. If it's about affordability of housing, there is a conflict of interest no matter what way you look at it, on many levels.

Call my a cynic, but his solution will probably be mass uncontrolled immigration to provide him with cheaper labour while driving up demand, plus more government intervention to so every worker can afford one of their rabbit hutches.

let me say now in advance and so accountable

    -it isn't about affordable housing
    -it won't recommend unlimited immigration
-it won't recommend government intervention other than they should release land for building

The review will look at the key problem areas sustaining the housing crisis, such as affordability for first-time buyers, different tenures such as the shared ownership scheme, housing supply and planning

Well, you're wrong on affordability. I wouldn't be surprised if shared ownership wouldn't involve the government (who else other than some government appointed body is going to own the rest?). I might have been flippant with the immigration remark, but the report won't go into the demand, just supply.

Personally, I think they'd do a lot to increase supply on land by only granting developers 12 month options to build. They're hoarding plenty of land.

you clearly do not know what 'affordable housing' actually means.
'Affordability' has an entirely different meaning.

Yes, 'affordable housing' means something specific in terms of planning. Something like, housing made available to people whose needs are not being met by the market.

The ' affordabilty of housing for first-time buyers' would indeed be something quite different.
  • My question would be, should it really be a huge vested interest with shareholders to please heading up the review?[/auote]

Probably not. I suspect some of the ideas in the review will be sensible though.

Don't know. Why don't you ask the Labour Party? It's their review.

Ha... didn't spot that. So it's actually the biggest review of housing for 10 years for an increasingly irrelevant opposition party.

I knew that already. Don't see what difference it makes to any of the points raised?
