Do mortgage brokers really need this much chasing????

Our broker did our full app paperwork with us at home on the Wednesday and told me it would be submitted by Friday. At 8am Thursday morning I logged into the laptop for work, and already had an email saying it had been submitted. He contacted us a few times over the next few days with bits and bobs we had to answer for Halifax re maternity, my working location (I commute between london and the midlands) and an old default. We sorted all of that by lunchtime Monday and then he called me at teatime to say he had spoken directly with the Halifax because he felt it was taking a while to get an answer and they have some kind of direct system where they can upload docs to them, so the manager he deals with had asked a senior underwriter to do it while he was on the phone. Ten mins later he was able to say we were accepted pending valuation - the whole application part therefore took less than a week and I cant rate him enough.
Since then we've sorted out the insurances we need with absolutely no hard sell whatsoever and he's been in touch whenever he has needed to be. He must work a lot of hours because he's never yet failed to get back to us if we had queries. I think a decent broker is worth their weight in gold, if you aren't happy and the application hasn't yet gone in I would consider looking elsewhere.0 -
I would imagine service levels vary depending on lots of factors, for example:
1) Fee structure - How motivated is a broker that charges their entire fee up front? If they don't charge a fee are they a stack 'em high sell 'em cheap type of business?
2) Some people are just not very organised when working to deadlines
3) Have they taken on more cases than they can handle?
4) Infrastructure - Do they have a support team that can field general queries/provide updates?
5) They're not that interested in your case and therefore aren't pushing the boat out service wise
Some clients are happy to have their case submitted and sit back until it's offered, whereas others require an arm around them during the process. Either is perfectly fine as long as the client and broker are on the same page.
