Banks and shareholders

Options
Do some banks still record the fact that a customer is a shareholder? I remember seeing on my RBS data protection request a field for Shareholder Y/N? and I think I remember that Lloyds TSB used to do the same. I don't know if any banks offer shareholder perks? Any knowledge anyone?

Do you not think that a company knows the names of all of it's shareholders? They may not contact them directly (the registrars would usually do that) but they'll certainly have access to the data.
  • Does a company normally know the end holder's details when those holders have their shares held in a nominee holding - typically via online stockbrokers?

and do their IT department have nothing better to do than cross-reference many hundreds of thousands of shareholders against several million accounts looking for matches?
And if they did, and having weeded out all the false positives, then what?

well, as shareholders receive dividends frorm companies there clearly are records of shareholders
  • Regardless of whether or not they actually bother to record it, I definitely saw a field for it on the RBS system when I had my subject access request data from them. I was interested to know if anyone knew anything about this.
