Student Grant/Pension query

Options
My son is at Uni (1st year) and gets a full grant as I retired at 62 and income below £25000. I am due to get state pension in April which will take my income over min. and reduce his grant by £900 ish.
Would I be able to defer my pension for two years enabling him to get full grant and is it worth it.
Thanks for any replies

you can defer your pension if you wish. You get interest on the deferred pension which is higher than currently available on most savings accounts.
You would have to do the sums and decide whether you can manage without the pension for that time.

I cant see any other problems but someone else may know better,
  • Don't forget, though, that they won't be taking your 2016/17 tax year income, when your pension will be included, into account for a while yet.

I've just done a quick Google, and in the 2016/17 academic year, they will take into account income from the 2014/15 tax year, and in the 2017/18 academic year, they should use income from the 2015/16 tax year.

I used to be Starrystarrynight on MSE, before a log in technical glitch!
