Tortoiseshell cats - similar traits?

We have an 8 year old male moggy, very long haired, whos a big lazy lump and doesn't do much.
Last year we got a tortie- tabby- and- white female from homing centre and she loved going hunting in the garden and woods and brining us presents of voles, mice, and moths. With the moths she would bring them in and "toy" with them til they were dead and then eat them:p , sometimes eating them alive.
Sadly she went missing, so we replaced her in the summer with another tortie-tabby-and-white female from the same homing centre, and although she is shyer and more timid than our other one, she also does this moth thing. She comes running in the cat flap chirping and shows us her catch, which she then toys with and gobbles up, then she chirps again and we praise her and she goes running out for more :D
I wondered if anyone else had cats who did this or if it was a tortie thing, i know torties are supposed to be funny b--ggers, she certainly is - one minute licking you the next biting you!

I LOVE tortoishell cats. They are the most playful and stay the most kitteny of any cats I've known (I've known a lot of cats!).
At the moment we have 2 - one is 9 and the other is 2.

They can be bonkers, soppy as anything or cranky all within the space of five minutes.

You just gotta love them though!

My tortie does this but she's slowed down a bit in recent years. She brought me a pork chop off someone's barbecue the other day, and I spotted her with what was either a black rat or a mole before she disappeared behind the shed. She's about 15 but still has a mad 5 minutes attacking the bathroom mat.

My Tortie is 21 years old and although arthriticky and slower than in her prime can still hunt a mean vole (she does the Moth thing too) LOL. I've always found female Torties to be kick-!!! action cast and male Tabbies to be soppy, dribbling slush buckets. I usually keep at least one of each LOL

Well it does seem to be a trait then!
I vowed not to get another tortie as they're so temperamental, but she was so soppy at the homing centre couldn't leave her behind!
She often goes completely mental in the middle of the night charging around, up and over the furniture.
And in the evening there's nothing she likes better than curling up on the setee licking you like you;re her kitten.

This really made me laugh. Our tortie, Woo, does this too, we call it bathmat surfing. I started out buying nice John Lewis bathmats but within a week she had destroyed all 4 of them so its Ikeas finest £1 a go for us!

I had never had a tortie until this one and she is absolutely barking, I thought at 7 she may have started to slow down but she is just getting worse. She loves playing peep-po where we peep round corners at her, she goes into stealth mode and stalks us then runs up, bites us and runs off with a big bog-brush tail :rotfl:
She also loves being smacked on the back with a newspaper or flip flop
Just recently she has taken to tapping me on the forearm repeatedly to get my attention, its very strange and quite human in a way

Our's is daft too! totally the opposite of her sister who's black and white. oh and yes tabby's are sloppy cats, my old boy at my parents house now dribbles when he gets a fuss and rolls over for his tummy to be tickled!

    keely.

  • Never had a tortie myself but have heard they all suit the nickname 'naughty tortie' quite well!

Alll these traits seem common to ALL the cats we've had, Tortie, black mottled, perhaps it's just a CAT thing

My parents' tortie is a little b*tch one minute then all snuggly the next. She rules the roost over the male (enormous) tabby in their house and any other cat who dares set foot in her garden. She's 10 now and sleeps a lot but can catch any creature she sees, she's like lightning!!
The vet has to give her her worming injection as she is vicious, she has to have her injections in a cage she's that bad:D
