Just joined Santander 123 after 45 years blemish free with Barclays but have been turned down for a credit card. Have had an ASDA one for fifteen years always paid in full every month but wanted to use the interest free transfer facility for short term whilst house sale goes through.
Equifax gives me a very good score all bills paid on time no black marks ever? Bit confused
Retired reasonable income don't owe a penny to anyone.

Your credit score from the credit ref agencies isn't seen by the lenders, lenders/ banks can decide who to lend to.

Maybe Santander didn't like something on your application.

You can appeal, quite a few people have been successful doing that, it means a real living person will look at your application and make a decision rather than a preset algorithm that has decided you are not worthy.

Same thing happened to me when I opened my first 123 account, despite bunging £20K in it. Tried again 6 months later and was accepted.

Not much help to you; how about Barclaycard, presumably they will have access internally to your '45 years blemish free ' records?
