Why would house insurance pay for damage to a screen.

Some home contents insurances cover accidental damage to such things.

Admittedly, the OP has not yet confirmed how the damage occurred.

I wouldn't mention that they shouldn't have sold you it. Not even sure why Microsoft told you Curry shouldn't have. Retailers sell ex-display items all the time, normally when the item is an end of line product and they won't be getting anymore.

In regards to the damage and paying Currys for a replacement. I'm sure they will sell you another tablet at full price. Any offer Microsoft want to make you is up to them to honour Currys won't deal with that.

The tablet will come with a 12 month warranty which Currys will honour if it's a manufacturing fault. If customer damage then they might be able to repair as they have their own repair centre. Note this is separate from Microsoft and will in occur repair charges stipulated by Currys not Microsoft.

Currys are still advertising the sale of Surface 3 machines on their website (as well as newer Surface 4's).
