British Gas and IGT switch
At the end of the year I switched to British Gas as part of the Energy Club collective deal. Everything went fine with my electricity switch but my gas has still not been switched. I suspect this is because my gas is supplied by an IGT.
I e-mailed British Gas today to find out what is going on and whether they could give me a date. They've replied to say that they have checked the national database for confirmation of my supplier and can see my gas is transported by an IGT which prevents them from looking into the supplier.
They have given me a number to phone to find out who my supplier is so I can supply them with this information.
I'm a bit perplexed by this. I've switched supplier a number of times over the past 10 years and while this has sometimes taken a while to complete I've never had to take an active part in finding out information. Also, in most instances the supplier has realised up front that I have an IGT and they've informed me of this fact early on in the process. British Gas just seem to have done nothing to progress this issue until prodded.
So, I will think about complaining about the fact they haven't taken step to progress this but I was wondering if I should go back to BG and say it's surely your job to sort this out (or will it just be quicker to do as they've asked)?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have just switched from Ovo to Zog for my IGT gas supply and the switch went through in 23 days from my application. BG are correct that IGT meters do not appear on the 'system'; however, if Ovo and Zog are anything to go by, all that is needed is for you to provide the supplier with the MPRN. This will be shown on your present supplier's bill. Presumably, you already know who is supplying your gas?
This bodes well for MSE's latest collective switch to BG.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

British Gas accept IGT customers and always have done.
(Iirc, they are actually the only gas supplier obligated to accept such customers, but many other suppliers also do)
Your new supplier is fully responsible for managing the aquisition of your supply.
I would suggest you start a formal complaint immediately following the British Gas complaint procedure.0
