Cheap Energy club - previous address outside UK?
I have registered for the CEC and would like to switch to a cheaper deal, but as our previous address was outside the UK, I can't do the switch online and I am advised to contact my supplier directly.
I'm assuming this means that I won't be able to take advantage of the CEC deals (like cashback etc.) although I could get a cheaper deal overall providing I call suppliers directly? We will have been at our current UK address for 3 years in September, but I think it's worth switching before then as we're with British Gas.

I don't get what a previous address over three years ago has to do with it. I only recall that it helps to provide your current postcode and your current tariff, though even the latter isn't really necessary.
If CEC is playing up, try http://www.energyhelpline.com/ or https://www.moneysupermarket.com/gas-and-electricity/enquiry/0 -
I'm not sure either but if I select the deal to make the switch, it's one of the fields that must be filled in.
Will try the other links and see if I can get through with those.
Thanks.

As it's an application for credit (being a credit meter tariff) then I guess the supplier wishes to credit check you.
Not all suppliers are so strict with their credit checks, assuming you already have credit meters installed.
(As you are currently supplied by BG, BG shouldn't have any issue with an application to them ... and BG is supposed to be the cheapest dual fuel tariff under the Big Switch 4 (but might bot be for you and your circumstances)0
