credit score bands - equivalent for the 3 CRAs?

I know, I know, a lot of you will say these scores are useless but now that they are all free to get, I'm just curious, do you find they actually correlate in your case?

These below are the ranges from the 3 CRAs, a friend sent them to me today. For me they do correlate although Noddle/Callcredit is the least generous with their numbers, I'm a 4 out of 5, not a 5.

In my case: I'm 620 (rating 4/5) on Callcredit, 534 on Equifax, and 968 on Experian. So for me there is a high correlation I'd say, and it makes sense given my history - no recent applications, no missed payments, stable address history, relatively low credit utilisation rate etc. Up until 2-3 months or so all the 3 of them were in the middle, as I applied for more than one credit card last year, and got some cash advances. So the score might be meaningless, but the score bands at least give an indication / flag potential issues, and there is some consistency across the 3 CRAs. Curious if that's the case for others.

Callcredit (via Noddle)
  1. Poor up to 500
  2. Fair 501-550
  3. Good 551-600
  4. Very Good 601-650
  5. Excellent 651-800

Equifax (via Clearscore)
  1. Very Poor 0-278
  2. Poor 279-366
  3. Fair 367-419
  4. Good 420-466
  5. Excellent 467-700

Experian (via Barclaycard)
  1. Very Poor 0-560
  2. Poor 561-720
  3. Fair 721-880
  4. Good 881-960
  5. Excellent 961-999

I don't think Noddles two "scores" are respective of one another as according to your post you need 650 to get a 5 rating.

On my previous report I had 5/5 with a 630 “score", less than the 650 "score" according to your posts.

I also didnt realise Noddle only goes up to 800. I always thought it was up to 999 like Experian

Just goes to show that the numbers have no meaning

I got the score bands from a friend who worked for one of the three CRAs as a software developer. The ratings 1-5 were added by me though - I will take them out not to confuse anyone :)

Noddle do use a 1-5 system in addition to a 1-whatever score, hence the confusion.

Did they send it signed for? If they didn't I'd open a dispute for item not received.

It's what a lot of people do anyway.

I think the confusion arises from those who are deluded enough to believe that these internally derived numbers have any relevance in the real world.

I don't think it would be a challenge for anyone with fairly basic skills to come up with a number range and then fit most credit histories somewhere into the range that made sense. If you can see the information and know that lots of u paid debts are paid, lots of searches look desperate, using more available credit is risky, not being on the electoral roll is a big issue and so on you could put them into one of the bands fairly easily and chances are others will agree with you.

If they were all wildly different then people would trust the systems less and be less likely to pay. So no I don't think it's surprising there is a correlation, I don't think that's difficult to achieve. I think the issue is people think that being in the top band means they have a god history and will get credit, people at the bottom think they won't get credit and will do quite a lot to make a change, people in the middle will think they won't get the best deals so will readily accept slightly higher rates or not getting the best deals.

This is what annoys me about it, there is no correlation between the score you have and how the lenders will individually 'score' you on their systems.

As for me, currently Noddle have me as a 4, Experian have me as a zero, I have just registered to check clearscore / Equifax and its showing as 354. Pretty site though!
