digital download quary

So, I purchased a game from a major retailer online as a digital download a few years ago.
At the time of purchase the game was unplayable due to my pc. So now I have upgraded I tried to install but got a date check error from securom, due to Microsoft killing off games for windows live. on the error window I get a link to here https://support.securom.com/pop_batmanac.html clicking on the "this instructions." takes me here http://steamcommunity.com/games/200260/announcements/detail/1909817119598626547
My activation key does not work on steam I opened a support ticket supplying the links above and they keep telling me that my key is invalid I asked them to look at the links and they came back with "they have supplied all the information".
I emailed the retailer and they don't want nothing to do with it even when I pointed out that my download link is now dead with nothing in terms and conditions stating that there is an expiry on the download or any notification that my access to the download will/has been removed.
So what can I do now?

Why didn't you download it at the time? (I know there may have been an issue with the capability of the PC to cope with the game, but there was nothing to stop you downloading the installer).
And if your answer is "Because the PC couldn't cope with the game", then my riposte would be - Why did you buy it then?0 -

You can still download the Games for Windows client (I had to do it recently for GTA 4) at http://www.xbox.com/en-gb/Live/PC/DownloadClient
