Reclaim Packaged Bank Account Charge without documents. Advice please.

We were mis-sold a packaged Barclays Additions account many, many years ago. Since then we have moved home 3 times and when we moved last time we shredded all bank statements etc that were more than 7 years old.
We'd like to re-claim the charges but have no paperwork at all. I've got a sinking feeling that we're not going to be able to prove anything.
It was probably 15+ years ago when we were told our bank account was changing and we had to have the new Additions account. Are we expected to keep bank statements/account details for that long - even when we're no longer using the account?
Has anyone claimed like this please?
Thank you in advance
Amanda

It is up to you how long you keep statements. But if you cannot keep one set of records for that time, I'm sure you don't expect the bank to have them either.
Who told you that you had to have the upgraded account, and can you evidence this at all?0 -

But you are expected to notice before this point that you had been mis-sold to.
To be honest we'd never really thought about it until we read about it on here. We thought everyone had to have these accounts.0 -

I'm not expecting the bank to have them either really so I guess I've answered my own question!
We were very young and newly married and took the advice of the bank adviser at the time. We both had Barclays accounts which we changed into a joint account when we married, that was subsequently changed to an Additions account when we were told that all accounts were changing.
I'm not holding out much hope but just wondered if it had been done before. Thanks for your help.0 -

I have all my statements going back to 1988. However, some people throw them away the day they get them.I'm not holding out much hope but just wondered if it had been done before. Thanks for your help.
Best stance to take. The current ombudsman uphold rate on packaged accounts is just 13%. However, we see posts on here daily from people getting refunds. You may get lucky and find they have info on your still. Its when you cease to be a customer of that bank that you tend to find the destroying of records speeds up.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). So were you told that you *had* to have an Additions account, or were you offered it as an upgrade? Barclays have always offered a fee free option, were you told this was no longer available to you?0 -

We were told that we had to upgrade to the new account as our old account wasn't going to be running any more. We were very naive at the time.
To be honest I think we'll just have to let it go. It was a very long time ago and we have no evidence easily accessible. But thanks for helping.0
