You've chosen to take notice of the wrong answers. Tech's don't necessarily know any better than the general public.

Use it on mains power unless you need to use it on battery power
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand

I do now, anyway (unless my husband accidentally unplugs me to charge his phone) or a dog steps on the cable and pulls out the jack plug, as the battery time is only about 30 minutes.

I'm not running it on the mains at the moment and only charge it up at night now. Does this matter?

Read the posts above. If it's Lithium Ion the answer is 'yes'. You're cycling (charging and discharging) your battery unnecessarily. You battery only has so many cycles in it. Plug it in when you're using it if you can, don't if you can't. See how that works out, and if you end up always plugged in, let it drain, say, once a month.

I am only charging it up when I only have an hour left on the battery. Otherwise I don't have it on the mains, is that the right way?

Have you read all the posts?

The answer to your question is either yes or no.

You need to decide which anonymous opinion you are going to believe.

What was wrong with the answer given on your earlier thread?

    Yes and it's very conflicting.

No - that means you're using the battery. You'd be better keeping the laptop plugged in if you can. And if you don't end up using the battery (as in running it for a while, without being plugged in) for a month, run it down.

Anyone have any good recommendations on replacement batteries for MacBooks? I changed mine 7 months ago, and despite thinking I know how to retain charge, it's already doing dead after about 45 mins.
