Just a bit of a rant really, I understand where they are and aren't liable, just a bit miffed that I thought we wouldn't have to mess around with sorting these things out once they were delivered!
We ordered some furniture from NCF on Boxing Day. A bed for our room and then two chests of drawers and a wardrobe for the spare room (soon to be nursery). As everything except the bed needed to be specially made we had to wait around 4 weeks for the order.
Everything was delivered on 22nd January. The delivery men offered to move the furniture upstairs (me being on my own at 24 weeks pregnant + lifting furniture upstairs, didn't seem like the best idea!), which was fine until they moved the wardrobe upstairs. It's fairly tall and when they lifted it up the stairs they caught it on the bannister, taking out a fairly big chunk at the top. They also lifted it above their heads, not taking into account the light at the top of the stairs (the ceiling of my landing is very high anyway). The next thing I heard was a loud crack and the light was broken. The men then decided they couldn't fit the wardrobe in the room so left it on my landing...blocking it so I couldn't access the (only) bathroom!
I took photos and went to NCF immediately and they refused to accept liability, even though I had to replace the light at my expense. (totally get this. I read my invoice I got when I ordered the stuff and it did say they don't take things upstairs, but said nothing about not being liable for any damage, plus the guys offered to do it for me, which I mentioned). So I kind of begrudgingly accepted it and went on with my day.
Fast forward to the Saturday just gone. 8 days after receiving our order. I sit on the side of my bed and it completely breaks. The slats are fine but the side of the bed has basically split into two pieces. Again, rang NCF as soon as it happened and they said they couldn't do anything about it. We've been sleeping on a mattress on the floor since then, which hasn't been good for me as getting up is quite difficult. My OH went down to the store yesterday and they are replacing the bed for us, but I've had to use a day's holiday to wait in for it as they don't do Saturday delivery!
Normally I'd just go down the route of complaining on Twitter, but they don't even have social media accounts, and when you call Customer Services they direct you to the shop you bought the stuff, and they don't do anything!
