Hi,
I am after some help if possible from you great people!
I work for the NHS and pay car parking charges through salary sacrifice. Last week I drove into the car park and straight over quite a large rock that has damaged my car. (£320 quote from a garage). The car park condition is not fantastic, but I don't know what rights I have given its a private car park?
Any help will be greatly appreciated
James

Maybe you should be looking where you were driving. I know that sounds harsh but at the end of the day you're in charge of the vehicle and this "rock" didn't just jump out in front of you on it's own.
The only thing you can do would be to prove the car park owner has been negligent, which would be a pretty difficult thing to do in this instance I'd expect.0 -
More information is needed.
You drove over a large rock, why? Driver error or careless as you didn't see it?
Are the owners of the car park negligent in any way? Did they know about the hazard before, have the conducted any checks lately?
Where has the rock come from?0 -

You have the right to repair your car. What is damaged, wheel and tyre, try secondhand parts on the ebay, you may be able to do better than £320.
Best look where you are going and try to avoid obstacles, rocks, children etc.0 -
Thank you for your comments. The car park is unlit and the surface is a combination of stone and tarmac. I am assuming the rock had come loose from the ground as the surface is uneven with pot holes etc and not in a good standard of repair.
I didn't know if there was a duty of care for the car park to be in a certain condition?

My car came with a fantastic little gadget called headlights. I don't know if they're standard on all models, but I'm fairly sure you could get some fitted at Halfords if not. I reckon it would be a worthwhile investment.0 -
You could potentially sue the car park owners for negligence if you can prove they were aware of the dislodged rock & had ample time to resolve the issue. All your base are belong to us.0

Put this down to experiance and move on, or try sueing your employer (NHS) if you think they were negligence, you may want to look for another place to park your car ot work as well.
Good lucks0 -
