Tire mobility system (TMS)

I have just had my Seat Ibiza in my local Seat garage for some repair work , on picking the car up I was advised the tyre sealant in the tyre well in lieu of having a spare wheel (Tire mobility system) has an expiry date of a few weeks time.
On checking on various web sites this product is around £25-£30 for a 450ml bottle.
If this product was out of date, would it lead to a fail on an MOT test? and would it be OK to replace it with a product similar to Holts tyre weld which is about 60-70% cheaper?

It won't fail an mot because their version of slime is out of date.

Seat garage is just trying to increase sales. I'm sure it'll still be perfectly fine to use for a while after the best before date. Even then a cheap can of own make from Wilkinsons will do.

Have a look on ebay and don't just focus on your own car make, many manufacturer's use the same stuff.

Do you have to have a spare for the MOT? I thought if it is there it has to comply, but won't fail the MOT if there isn't one. Might be out of date info of course.

You don't need a spare and only wheels fitted to the car are tested.

Is this kit which is nearly out of date just an aerosol can type of thing which is rubbish - or is it the proper Continental Mobility Kit with a small compressor and a bottle of sealant which you attach to the pump?

Don't make the mistake of thinking the Conti Kit is anything like Holts Tyre Weld or anything like that.

Better to just buy a spare wheel. If the car doesn't have a spare wheel well in the boot, then buy a car that does.
