isnt it neg rates if you lend to the central bank, eg to stop banks lending their excess to the central bank but to lend it via interbank lending to each other

We have sizable balances sitting with Citbank overnight so Euro current account balances are costing money. Nor can we put the money on overnight deposit as the majority of the money is EU Project funding. A condition of the funding being that no interest can be earnt.

    A mad mad world.

Would NIR here perhaps be the starting pistol for the biggest ever growth in consumer spending? After all if its costing you money to keep it in the bank, and stuffing it under the mattress is dodgy why not just go out and spend most of it?

Is this actually affecting consumers anywhere? As far as I know, not.

Regarding the consumer spending hope, maybe central banks need to rethink their policies. Low interest rates might just be having the opposite affect that they'd hoped. There are people out there still stuck in this old fashioned idea of saving for the future rather than accruing debt. As interest rates on savings get lower, people might just be reigning in their spending and saving even harder.
  • Paper investments are all going down, gold and silver are going up.

People are looking for somewhere safe to invest, but they go from one papaer investment to another thinking its any different. Only gold and silver privately held are nobody elses counter party risk.

Sweden has moved from -0.35% to -0.5%. The downward spiral continues.

    Twaddle.

Any real asset can be held with no counterparty risk. There really is nothing special about gold or silver.

It cant be held privately, in secret. Thats what is so special about bullion.

If you are sued or any situation then you cant hide property ownership.

Anyway, you never really own property, just stop paying property taxes then see what happens?

Gold is currently increasing though.... as we can see by the surge on the end of your chart. The person you are "sighing" over while carrying our your Mr Muddle routine didn't suggest anything else and was clearly talking short time.
