sainbury new fix compare to big switch ?

My sainsbury fixed deal is ending this month and wondered if it works out cheaper to go with the Big fix or change to their new fixed rate. Does anyone at MSE know?

Why would they? Only you can do the comparison as a good deal for a low user may not be a good deal for a high user, and a good deal for someone living in London might not be a good deal for someone living in Edinburgh. You need to run your estimated annual usage in kWhs - not £s - along with your postcode through the MSE CEC comparison site.

  • What I find confusing is the fact that the savings are based on a standard tariff and the savings on those are the hundreds mentioned that people are benefiting from, not one fix to another, and the big fix says its on the standard tariff as well.

OFGEM has mandated that suppliers and comparison sites have to use this type of inflated savings methodology. An assumption has to be made as to what will happen at the end of a fixed tariff term. The OFGEM method leads to inflated costs and thus inflated savings as the assumption is that the customer will do nothing at the end of a fixed term, and default to the supplier's standard variable tariff.

To its credit, MSE CEC shows both the OFGEM method and a simple annual cost comparison.

    Good idea.

Ignore any other discounts/surcharges that may apply

Makes you wonder why copmparison sites exist don't it? You apparently just need a list of standing charges and unit costs.
  • just phoned sainsbury's energy enquiring about martins e-mail of cheaper tariff with british gas and sainsbury's customers can get it, not so, it is a british gas deal and you have to speak to british gas about it. quite a few customers have rang sainsbury's to be told it is to do with british gas.
  • @spud555

You cannot call British Gas about the email deal and expect to get an answer. The deal in the email is, by law, only available directly from the MSE Cheap Energy Club so calling anyone else is not going to work.

It is open to customers of British Gas, Sainsbury's and other energy suppliers.
  • was told by sainsbury's i would incur exit fees, rang british gas, who on speaking to sainsbury's rep i had it confirmed there is no exit charges so i have made the switch.
