transfer on death

Does anyone know what happens where the husband dies and the account is transfered into the wifes name? The account was in the husbands name only and was a cheap fixed rate deal.

Does the wife take over the account on the existing tariff, or is she put onto the standand tariff?

My Mum let the bills continue in my Dads name for a long while. As long as the bill is being paid I don't think it will matter too much.

Not everyone can cope with this type of situation straight away.

We she was ready to deal with them, it was just a name change on the bill.

    Hi,

Your supplier just changes the name on the account which is the same as adding your spouse. You would only change deal if it changed in terms of tenancy e.g. other family member other than spouse took over. You hold joint liability anyway really if you are married.

    Regards
