I suggest that dad starts by opening a new basic bank account in his own name and paying in his salary.

Yes I have recommended that he does this.his savings account in his name has about five or six grand in it, it is not joint savings, does that mean they are unable to touch that?

Am if right in saying that the only income of my dad's they could touch is his pension? He currently has a pension from his old job and will get another work pension in about three years as well as state pension-is my mum entitled to 50% of all three?

Also does anyone know if dla is paid if you go into assisted living or does it depend on the level of care required? Her dla isn't in payment at the minute due to her being in hospital so I was just wondering if she would get that back

Thank you very much for the links, I will read through those. As for compulsorily detained, I'm not sure.she was sectioned for a few weeks at one point and anytime she asks to get home she is told no as she is not well enough, but I don't think that classes as detained as such?

If she is prevented from leaving then she is being detained, whether her paperwork reflects that is another matter. If she is under a sectioning order, then do not let them discharge her without a full NHS funded care package in place.
  • Thank you for the reply, I'm not sure if they would be able to help us as we are in Northern Ireland?

Even if they have no homes in Nth Ireland I'm sure they can offer good advice. It's worth an enquiry.
